Lock Out Tag Out (Group)

Objective: To provide an overview of group lockout and its procedures

Group lockout is a method to assure that the equipment stays locked out until everyone in a group is finished working on the equipment. The following guidelines must be followed to keep this process safe and effective.

Group lockout procedure must provide all employees with the same level of protection provided by an individual lockout or tagout device.

Group Responsibility

When a crew or other group performs service or maintenance on equipment, a single authorized employee must:

  • Assume the overall responsibility for the control of hazardous energy for the whole group.
  • Implement the group lockout energy control procedure.

Process

Each person who enters the danger zone is responsible to do the following:

  • Verify that the hazardous energy sources have been locked out.
  • Affix your personal device to the group lockout box (or equivalent).
  • Place your personal lock in the group lockout box.
  • Verify that all keys have been secured in the group lockout box.
